Nature & Parks
Acadia National Park is a vast 47,000-acre nature reserve characterized by forests, towering granite peaks, and rugged coastlines. It offers a range of activities such as camping, hiking, and more. While visitors typically spend around three days exploring the park and its nearby town Bar Harbor, it's still possible to make the most of a single day by driving along the scenic 27-mile Park Loop Road.
My mom just moved to ME which makes it easy to explore Acadia. It’s now one of my favorites. The views are breathtaking. Sometimes it’s foggy, which gives it this spooky and mysterious vibe. The beehive’s summit is my favorite trail so far. It overlooks sand beach. I would love to explore when it’s fall and the leaves are different colors.

The "summer getaway" location in Maine (and the rest of New England). This national park has options for all. From short strolls and horseback riding to photograph and water activities.Recommendation: Plan in advance to secure accommodations outside the park and your "must do" activities. A little bit of preparation will be worth the journey.

This is a lovely place to hike and get spectacular ocean views. Don’t expect to see much wildlife, and avoid the heavily trafficked loop road during peak tourist season - unless you want to spend time on a parking lot or walk shoulder to shoulder with thousands of visitors. We especially loved the hike to Sargent mountain from Jordan’s pool and also the less crowded loop around the schoodick peninsula
Venkatesh K — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place! Was only able to spend a few hours exploring, but we will definitely be returning for an extended stay. Very peaceful. Only one other couple were at the beach we stopped at to explore. It was drizzling, but I think it only added to the charm.

A seemingly endless number of hiking trails to choose from that range from easy to difficult, with each offering unique and beautiful views of Mount Desert Island and the surrounding seas and lands. A must-visit national park for hikers, bikers, naturalists, and adventurers.

Although the mountain-river sceneries are most concentrated in western or center of United States, but Acadia National Park makes an exception. There is rarely good Mountain View at east coast of United States, people can hiking, mountain climbing, biking, etc. Also there have beautiful rock coast, and enjoy the colorful rock with blue ocean. According to the rank, Acadia National Park is the only national park located at eastern coast which in the top 10 most beautiful national parks of United States.

Beautiful park with plenty of trails and wonderful views. Driving up Cadillac mountain is a must if you’re there as a visitor from away! We hiked the beehive trail and it was a fun hike with a rewarding view at the top!! Definitely don’t recommend if you’re scared of heights.

Wilderness. Nature. Bird songs. Plenty of adventures to choose from. A park pass is $35 (unless you're fancy and you have an annual pass) and it's good for 7 days. We decided to do Cadillac Summit which also required a $6 reservation on top of the park pass. The views on the summit were really spectacular. Unfortunately, it gets very busy and people be people sometimes and were very very loud. I'm not a very touristy vacation type of person and have the opinion that nature, when experienced, should be quiet so you can take it all in. If you match my freak maybe pick something else within the park.I would recommend you screenshot the QR code for the summit pass because there is no service anywhere near the park. Also they say you need ID but no one checked. Also also keep in mind if you have a fear of heights it's very high and the drive up there was a little unnerving.6 out of 5 stars.

Came back after 13 years and still this place is so much mesmerizing and addictive. With excellent walking trails and well maintained places it’s still one of the great places to visit. The Fjords are so cool to see from the peak and if you are lucky u can book a sunrise spot also.
Shubhendu D — Google review
Great experience. Very beautiful and serene. Lots of different trails with varying levels of difficulty. Beehive trail and Jordan pond loop were highlights. Bar harbor and bass harbor are also worth a visit.

One of the prettiest National Parks I've visited. I loved being able to climb Cadillac Mountain and greet the sunrise. Otter cliffs were stunning. Jordan Pond was picture perfect. The trails offered varied in length and intensity. So glad to cross Acadia off my bucket list. My young son thoroughly enjoyed the trip too. Would love to visit again in the Springtime or Summer.

Such diverse landscape from mountains to the sea. We particularly liked exploring tide pools at low tide. The flowers looked and smelled amazing in July. Some of the more popular areas were very crowded and parking was difficult.

Great experience. Cadillac Mountain was scenic. Lots of hiking opportunities for all levels. Bubble Rock is a great hike, no matter what path you take. Thunder Hole had impressive waves but wouldn't THUNDER for us (need surge and winds to be just right)

Beautiful National park in Maine. So many sites to see and things to do inside the park. Tons of hiking trails and carriage roads. We were lucky enough to visit during peak fall foliage and the park did not disappoint. Lots of different areas to explore so be sure to map out your day and have other options available as some areas get very crowded and parking can be limited!

My husband and I have been to many of the National Parks, and Acadia is up there among our favorites! We spent a couple of days hiking around in mid-October, and it. was. breathtaking!!! The air smells and feels so fresh, the landscape is dramatic, and the wildlife is incredible. We saw bald eagles, seals, and deer. If you head to Acadia, I’d definitely recommend taking some time to walk down to the sand beach! If you walk all the way to the left, there are some tidal pools and grassy spots. We spent a lot of our afternoon laying in the sunshine and looking in the tidal pools. We also loved hiking around Otter Point! Gosh, I can’t put into words how stunningly beautiful the landscape is… if you’re thinking of planning a trip to Mount Desert Island, think no more!! Do it! It’s amazing.

Though winter is not the hot season of Acadia, it is also special and beautiful. I will definitely go there again and explore more of this amazing island. We climbed the Door Mountain, it’s not difficult and has a good view on the top.

Absolutely stunning with something for everyone. The ocean provides beautiful pools with micro ecosystems to explore, the mountains have stunning views with hikes ranging from easy to challenging depending on your choices and the flora and fauna do not disappoint.

One of the best national parks we've ever been to. The view from Cadillac Mountain summit is breathtaking. There are many overlooks, and each one is equally beautiful. It's difficult to choose just one as my favorite. So, if you're visiting, make sure to hit all of them. The park entrance fee is $35 (valid for 7 days), and the Cadillac Mountain summit road fee is $6 (valid for single use).

Wow! Big. Very nice, well marked hiking trails of every level of difficulty. Had only a day to enjoy the perfect late summer weather. Drives also very fun. Plus whole island, not just the actual Park has beautiful scenery and other opportunities.Highest recommendation

One of the best hiking and sightseeing destinations in the country and world. Even right after peak season it’s very very very busy. But if you plan accordingly with alternatives/backups for traffic and/or weather situations you can have a fantastic time. Make sure to take in account for the heavy foot traffic and longer wait time at restaurants because it’s often visited by families and older folks as well.
Miguelina D — Google review
We have traveled our 48 states and Acadia National Park is in the top 10 attractions. Plan enough time to see and experience all routes. We chose to drive ourselves instead of the buses and found it pleasurable and not difficult. Bar Harbor is very busy and parking was difficult to find.

We could say so much about Acadia! But I’ll keep this short:- Amazing hikes, they are short, some are exposed with ladders and narrow ledges. They offer incredible views on the ocean and they are very very scenic. Jordan Pond, beachcroft path, precipice trail, beehive, good classics!- The park is so clean, campgrounds are nice if you can book a spot, you can either go hike in the mountains or hang out on the coast.- If you can bring bikes, the carriage road is so much fun, gravel road with scenic views, no cars. One of the best park I’ve been too. They don’t have the big and tall mountains, but they don’t miss it!

Incredible National Park. Went in November traffic was light which made everything easy to get around. Downside many restaurants and amenities were not open. Did not need a reservation for Cadillac Mountain. I'd go back in an instant.

I went on a drizzly day in March in the off season but everything was still so stunning. I wish I'd had more than 1 day to look and hike around. Definitely coming back for longer in the summer. Gorgeous spot

It's amazing with the nature around the Acadia National Park. Can only be in awe with the different scene from the different direction of the park. Road signage are great and clear. Great place to breathe in the serenity of the nature. Love the thunder hole, can spend hour, if not hours listening to the thunder sound created by the nature!Do not miss visiting the Acadia National Park!

Very pretty place! First time I’ve been to a national park. Didn’t get the views because it was foggy that day but can imagine it’s very cool. Would definitely go back another time to look out from the top of the mountain

Wow! This is an amazing place with many different opportunities to explore! There are easy and hard trails, maps and a gift shop. Shuttles to each of the trails is a plus! There are also carriage rides with horses. A must stop if you are traveling! Plan to spend days hiking around!

I have traveled over the entire United States and Acadia is by far one of the most magical places I have had the pleasure experiencing. You could explore this place over and over, and I would be willing to bet its beauty would forever be shocking, inspiring, and uplifting. You will not regret traveling here and you will definitely want to stay. I would recommend staying in bar harbor, if you can afford it, and hiking every trail you can. The Bee Hive Trail was my favorite and looked beautiful with the fall leaves. I went the second week of October and I think one more week would have been perfect to allow for more transition.

The first light of dawn at Cadillac Mountain is a spectacle not to be missed. As the highest point on the East Coast, it offers a sunrise that is both humbling and invigorating. The sky, painted with vibrant hues, and the panoramic views provide a moment of awe that encapsulates the beauty of Acadia. The park's trails are a haven for adventurers of all levels. The **North Ridge Trail** presents a rewarding challenge leading to the summit of Cadillac Mountain, where the vastness of the landscape unfolds. Despite the park's popularity, there are still moments of solitude to be found, where the natural sounds of the forest and sea offer a peaceful retreat for reflection. At the **Thunder Hole**, the ocean's might is on full display as waves crash into a cavernous inlet, producing a thunderous roar. This natural amphitheater is a testament to the power and beauty of the sea. Acadia is a place that leaves a lasting impression, with its majestic mountains and mysterious seas creating memories that beckon you to return. 🌲🌊🌞

Love this park. Don't love crowds, but Covid made everyone want to be out. Go during off times or ride a bike. Biking the road (no timed passes needed!) and carriage trails is awesome. Scenery is amazing.

Acadia National Park is an absolute gem! The breathtaking beauty of this place left me in awe, where the ocean seamlessly blends with majestic mountains and lush forests. The hiking trails offer stunning views at every turn, and I loved being surrounded by such diverse landscapes. One of the highlights for me was how dog-friendly the park is—being able to bring my dog along made the experience even better. The free shuttle service around the island and throughout the park is incredibly convenient, making it easy to explore different areas without worrying about parking.Whether you're an avid hiker or just looking for a peaceful escape in nature, Acadia has something for everyone. Wonderful national park, well laid out for tourists, and plenty of remote areas to explore in addition to the more popular spots. Make sure to reserve a time slot for the drive up Catalac Mountain. You can do so on the website. Also, make reservations for the carriage ride in the park. Enjoy.

Beautiful scenery at every turn. We traveled mid-June just before the start of peak season. It was busy, but not so much so that we couldn't enjoy ourselves or find parking.

One of the most beautiful places in the New England without a doubt, an absolute must-see! Enjoyed hiking the many trails up the mountains, and biking the carriage roads was a lot of fun! Would recommend getting into the park early, as parking becomes quite difficult during peak hours late morning-early afternoon.

A Must See! Stunning. The entrance fee is 35.00 for 7 days. Make sure you head to the visitor’s center first to pick up a map and get some advice from the friendly staff. The park also has special activities to do at certain times and they are posted at the center. You can drive around the park yourself or take a bus and hop off and on. It’s beautiful with plenty to see and do. There are all different types of trails for all fitness levels. My daughter’s loved climbing on all the rocks at Thunder Hole & Otter’s point. You don’t have to climb the rocks there are paved walkways where you can enjoy the views. My teens loved the climbing. Sandy Beach is unique definitely worth the visit. The water is clean and cold. Jordan’s pond was beautiful and we enjoyed the yummy popovers. The views at Cadillac Mountain are incredible. You need a reservation to park that can be done on line. It’s a wonderful national Park 🏞️. Go you will be happy you did!

My family and I stayed in the area for a month exploring this great national park. There was so much to see and we still did not have enough time to get to everything. With that being said, the things we did see were magnificent and the wonder that surrounds the trail in this park is amazing. If you look close enough in nature you find so many little things working together that makes the landscape what it is. Highly recommend this park if you are ever in the area and the people there are so nice. Thanks for the hospitality.

Took a 2 hikes: beachcroft trail up most of Chamberlain mountain, sandy beach. What an amazing beach! The geology is super interesting compared to the south's beaches. Lots of triangle rocks, as well as some sea glass. Also visited thunder hole at low tide. It was still amazing. You can see how the tide booms in at high tide.

Words can’t describe the views. We had amazing hikes and the weather in late May was perfect. I hope I get to go back and explore more trails. We did The Beehive and it was quite a challenge and the rest were fun. Don’t miss this gem.

The place is incredible! It sits on Mt. Desert Island (MDI) and the views at nearly every turn are just spectacular. There are numerous hikes (both short and long), as well as for those with mobility issues. I love that the park loop road isn't a closed loop; you can hop on and off to go to Bar Harbor or other points along the island.

We did Cadillac Road up to the summit, you should definitely get your passes booked 48 hours ahead of time and plan your stops according to when you want to enter the summit. It's an absolutely amazing experience seeing the mountain view of the endless ocean horizon in front of you! The other points of the park also require proper timing for the best effects so do your research to make the most of your memories. Hope you love your time as much as we did!

Beautiful. The landscape is breathtaking. I have been here at various times of the year and I am never disappointed. Just make sure you bring appropriate clothes. Get here early. It will take you all day to see all the sights that are here. While you can DRIVE everywhere, you WILL want to get out and walk around and become involved in this remarkable piece of nature. Just breathing the air alone will make you come back.

Another amazing place. We did purchased the tickets to get in the Arcadia park and the Cadillac Mt. However we noticed if you don’t go to the Cadillac Mt there you can explore the Arcadia Park without paying. Not sure because it was the end of May.Either way is a great place with great views!

We really enjoyed our time here! We ended up with not enough time to enjoy everything we wanted to. Plan for two days in the park at a minimum or start early in the morning if you only have one day. We stopped at Sand Beach and walked around. It was very nice. Bathroom facilities were clean. We also climbed Gorham Mountain. We didn’t take any snacks with us and by the time we reached the top, we wished we had brought something to nibble on. The views up there were spectacular. Very windy as well. A lot of people are stopping about 400 feet too soon and checking in online. You will know you’ve made it when you reach the sign.

This beautiful place will never get old! You can't see it all in one day or one weekend. This was our second year going and our biggest group yet! We finally made it to Cadillac mountain from the south trail head, unfortunately we didn't make it to the top, but the 6 kids we had with us did amazing as long as they could! Definitely proud of them all.

I spent 1.5 days at Acadia.I highly recommend a guided Ebike tour along the carriage road the weather is good. I did this the last day of August and the weather was absolutely perfect. I couldn't ask for a better day. It was sunny with a slight breeze and the temperature was just right. Electronic assist is Wonderful unless you are an avid bicyclist, in which case you might may want to just ride a standard bicycle. there are two reasons I really enjoyed the guided tour. First of all the guide gave a lot of great history and background regarding the national park as we made stops along our 20 mile bike ride. Secondly. we were able to cover a lot of high spots and get that background from a viewpoint that is not allowed by car. I personally love the electronic bicycle. I still peddled and worked, but I was not exhausted. It was still a significant amount of effort even with assist and I am not a supreme athlete so this was perfect for me. I'm in my 50s and in decent health. In the afternoon, I took a 3 to 330 reservation to drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain and upon completing that overlook I drove the scenic loop up until sunset. I feel like I was able to see all of the points did not do any hiking. The next morning we visited point prior to heading north to Prince Edward Island.

Acadia is one of my favorite Maine places to visit over and over. I hike here year round in every type of New England weather. This park is loaded with endless options for hiking the trails and carriage roads. A daily, weekly, or annual park pass is required to enter this Park. The Jordan Pond House is the only cafe inside the Park (that I am aware of) that serves food and drink. Bodies of water here range ponds, streams, lakes, and countless access points to the Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to check the official Acadia NP website to catch any road or trail closures. The autumn foliage here is absolutely stunning during October. The scenic drive on Park Loop Road within the Park (on Mount Desert Island, aka MDI) is approximately 25 miles long.

Beautiful!! The only downside is the crowds. We were in the park the first few days of June. There was hardly any traffic on the roads and the parking lots were only about 1/4 full. Went back today, June 11, and it was packed. Can't imagine how bad it'll be once summer is officially here. Irregardless, it's a must-see destination.
