A Powerful Foundation for Any Electronic Rig
Elektron's premier performance sampler and sequencer is better than ever with the Octatrack MKII. It still packs everything you need at the heart of your electronic music rig, including eight stereo audio tracks, eight dedicated MIDI tracks, real-time sample stretching and pitch shifting, and Elektron's world-famous sequencer. This second-generation Octatrack adds performance-focused features such as rugged backlit buttons, precision hi-res encoders, the smoothest crossfader you've ever used, more dedicated function buttons, balanced audio inputs for higher headroom, and a highly visible OLED screen. Much more than just a sampler and sequencer, the Elektron Octatrack MKII is a powerful control center for electronic music production.

As good as advertised
Best sampler I’ve ever used
Best drum machine in existence
Did I mention I'm drinking OJ and eating pancakes right now? Good... Good.... Got some maple syrup from Ralphs that's decent but the "real" stuff that isn't just corn syrup is like 25 bucks a bottle. Kinda a rip off. I guess they have to extract it from actual trees though so maybe it's justified. I can definitely taste the difference. And don't get me started on pancake mix.
I LOVE THE OCTATRACK
The live recording mode is fantastic. You can trigger samples by slices, chromatic, by triggering them manually...So fun and easy to throw something down plus the quantization is superb. Micro-timing edits are also handy here.
All that being said, this machine is not without its flaws. The learning curve is steep, the manual tells you that you CAN do things but not HOW to do them, you can only trigger a loaded sample once per step, all samples have to be WAV 44.1, etc. But so far I have not encountered any deal-breakers or huge regrets, rather once you get over each drawback and accept the Octatrack for what it is, you move on and continue loving it. The pros far outweigh the cons here.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that doesn't have a few years of experience with music production, as the learning curve is steep. I would be struggling far more with this without having used FL Studio for some time. I've only had this for about a month and after I got over the initial shock of not knowing how to use it, many of the functions I want to use start to feel very intuitive and natural. Not all of them though - whenever I'm stumped I just do a google search and inevitably someone on the Elektron forums has asked the same question and gotten an answer from the supportive community there.
So yeah, if you're looking to take your music to the next level, get yourself an Octatrack. Techno, house, breakbeat, the possibilities are endless...
Loads of weird fun, but sometimes bizarrely limited
